Overview

This article will discuss the fundamentals of BPAY.

BPAY is an electronic bill payment system in Australia which allows customers to make payments to invoices via telephone or internet banking.

If a service provider intends to offer BPAY as a payment method, they first need to subscribe with a payment merchant who will provide them with a BPAY biller code. The service provider then generates a BPAY reference number for each of their customers. Invoices are then generated that display this information. When paying the invoice via their institution's phone or internet banking service, the customer will supply the biller code and reference number. The funds will be then directed to the service provider via their payment merchant provider.

Emersion offers automated collection of BPAY payments via Ezidebit, who can also provide a BPay biller code. Please contact the Emersion sales team for more information.

Please see Configure BPay Biller Codes on how to configure the BPay Biller Code as supplied by your payment merchant.

To configure a BPay reference against an individual customer, please see Configure a Payment Method.

BPAY on Invoices

When configured, the BPAY reference data will be shown on the invoice in the How to Pay section.

BPAY References

Once a biller code has been configured, BPAY references will automatically be created when new customers are added to the system.

These references can be updated individually via the Customer > Payment Methods page. See this article for more information.

BPAY requires that all customer reference numbers conclude with a check digit, helping to ensure the accuracy of data delivered back to BPAY clients.
There are 4 standard algorithms:

  • MOD10V01 (Supported) (tick)
  • MOD10V05 (Supported) (tick)
  • MOD09V02 (Not Supported)(error)
  • MOD10V02 (Not Supported)(error)

Bulk Import BPAY Reference Numbers

For service providers who need to configure BPAY reference numbers for larger numbers of existing customers can do so via this the bulk import tool.
