Overview
Subscription-based services can generate an additional commission each time the service is billed. This is known as a trail commission.
Trail commissions can only be created for Subscription-based services that already have a commission tier applied to them.
This article explains how to configure trail commissions for subscription-based services. This includes:

- Service Plans
- Service Features
- Bolt-Ons
Accessing the Settings
The process for configuring a trail commission is the same for all services, however the settings for each type are located in different places.
Follow the instructions for the Billing Object you want to apply the ruleset to.
Package Plans
Navigate to Packages & Plans > Management, press the ID of a SELL Package Plan and then open the Commission Tier tab.
Service Plans
Navigate to Packages & Plans > Management > Service Plans, press the ID of a SELL Service Plan and then open the Commission Tier tab.
Service Features
Navigate to Packages & Plans > Management > Product Rate Cards, press the ID of a Product Rate Card then open the Product Rate tab.
Click on the Commission Tier link in the row for the Service Feature.
Bolt-Ons
Navigate to Packages & Plans > Management > Bolt-Ons, press the ID of a SELL Service Plan and then open the Commission Tier tab.
Configuring a Trail Commission
From the Commission Tier tab click on the ID for the commission tier you want to add a trail for and then press Add Trail.
Enter the desired values in the Manage Trails screen as described below.

| Grant Type* | Choose from one of the following options:

| Trail Amount | The fixed commission value that will be generated when the subscription is first created. Select the appropriate tax for this commission from the adjacent dropdown. |
| Override? | Check this box to enable editing the Trail Amount and Inc Tax entries. |
| Inc Tax | Check this box if the Trail Amount provided already includes the appropriate tax. If left unchecked then the tax will be calculated and added. |
| Trail Access Fee % | Enter a percentage of the Access Fee to be granted as part of the trail commission. |
| Trail Usage % | Enter a percentage of the Usage Fees to be granted as part of the trail commission. |
| Trail Duration (months) | Enter how many months the subscription should continue generating trail commissions for. If this is left blank the trail will be generated for the life of the subscription. |
| Effective From | Select a starting date to begin generating this trail from. |
| Effective To | You can provide an ending date here, subscription invoices generated after this date will not grant a trail commission. |
| Requires Active Contract | Check this if the bounty should only be generated if the subscription has a valid contract. |
| Contract Age (months) | Enter how many months a contract should be active for before rewarding the commission. The commission will still be generated during this period; but won't be available until the period ends. Leaving the field blank has the same effect as entering zero. |
| Trail Auto Approve Cardline | If checked, then the trail commission cardline will be automatically Approved after it leaves the Pending state. |

Press Submit to finish configuring the trail commission.
