Overview
This article guides users how to create and edit an SMS template in the Events module. This article is written generically and is applicable to all message events. For information specific to the event you wish to use, look for the event in the Event Library.
Create a New SMS Template
To begin creating a template, navigate to the path below.
Events > Templates > SMS
Click the Create New SMS Template button. The Create a Template page will appear.
Give the template a suitable name.
From the Event Type drop down list, choose the event type this template is for.
Once an event type has been chosen from the list, the system will perform a check to see if your service provider account has been configured with an instance (or more) of the selected event. If so, the Event Mapping list will change to display all instances of the event for any given account profile (if relevant).
Select the relevant Event Mapping from the drop down list.
Enter the name of the Sender. This is a text field, and is usually set to your company name.
From the list of Recipients available, select who you want the message to be sent to. To choose multiple options, hold down CTRL button while using your left mouse button to click the options you want (Windows PCs only).
Content Creation
SMSs are always sent in plain text. No formatting options are available. There are options to select variables to use in the content of the message.
Message Size
While Emersion's SMS gateway and system supports messages of greater than 160 characters, some handsets only support displaying SMSs that are 160 characters and under. For this reason, we recommend keeping your SMSs short and to the point. If a SMS is more than 160 characters it will be split into multiple messages. Most smartphones can combine these message into a single easy to read message.
If an SMS is generated and the content is > 160 characters, the message will be broken up into multiple SMSs, and charged per 160 character message,
Estimated Number of SMS Messages
