Overview
As part of national security measures passed in 2015, the Federal Government is compelling telecommunications companies and internet service providers to keep consistent and reliable data on their customers for two years.
In order to support our customers with data retention obligations under the legislation, this module offers the ability to have relevant data stored in a separate system specifically created for the purposes of data retention. Any changes that occur within the Emersion platform are synchronised to this data retention sub system.
Included in this module are:
- Access to a user interface named Vortex where authorised staff can search, view and export data being kept for data retention purposes.
- Access to the following data retention reports, accessible via Cumulus. These reports can also be used to search, view and export data.
- An optional compliant process to meet the auditing obligations under the legislation.
Vortex
Vortex is a platform that runs separate from the primary Emersion platform. Vortex is used to store data for data retention purposes. Authorised users can log in and search for customer and service data should they receive a data retention-related request from any authorised government agency.
Reports
A number of reports are provided in Cumulus that can extract data retention data. Click on any report to see its specification.
- Data Retention Subscriber Information (id: 1140)
- Data Retention Generic Service Information (id: 1141)
Voice Access Report (id: 1142)
Internet Access Usage Service Report (id: 1143)
- Data Retention Request Log - Service Tickets (id: 1227)
- Customers with Address Details (DR) (id: 1137)
Compliant Auditing
In addition to the data itself, Emersion provides a way to track meta data about that request that is required to be captured under the Act. Companies are free to adopt their own policy and process that meets these requirements.
For companies without a procedure, Emersion includes use of the Service Desk module with a Data Retention queue.
Tickets created in the queue contain mandatory fields specific for data retention compliance.
If a request from an authorised government agency is for multiple customers, a ticket per customer will be needed.
