Overview

Radius is the defacto standard protocol for authenticating users and for recording accounting information. It is commonly used by Wireless Access Points (APs), Terminal Servers or Network Access Servers (NASs) whenever a user logs on and off network access devices or internet services.

The Cumulus user interface, billing engine (BMS) and provisioning are fully integrated with the Radius server. End customers’ authentication details can be configured and managed, along with service attributes such as data shaping limits, which are updated to the Radius server automatically. Radius accounting records (i.e. data usage information) are seamlessly processed by the billing engine to create your customer invoices for your data services at the end of the billing period.

If end users authenticate to your own RADIUS infrastructure, or Emersion's Radius this is what is known as a Layer 2 data service. If your users authenticate to your carrier's radius infrastructure, this is a Layer 3 data service.

Emersion's Radius Service

Emersion uses Radiator as our Radius server.

This provides the ability to control things like:

  • DNS servers
  • control lists
  • IP Pools.

It is imperative that your format of RADIUS attributes are correct, or you will experience issues with your customers when they authenticate.
