Overview
This article explains how to grant and revoke a customer's access to the End User Portal.
Assumptions
The Sign Up portal process provides a way for users to set up a portal login while creating an account. This article assumes the end user account was not created via Sign Up, or they skipped the step.
Granting Access
To grant a customer access to the End User Portal, it must be enabled and a username and password created. If your user's account was created via the Sign Up portal, they may have created a username and password via that process. Otherwise, access is not enabled by default.
Access is granted via the Customers > End User Portal page.
If an End User Portal user has never been created, you will be presented with the text "Portal has not been configured". You will be required to follow the steps below to create a username & password.
- Press the Configure Access button to put the page into EDIT mode
- Tick the box labelled "Enable access to the End User Portal" to grant access to the portal and allow the input of a username and password
- Enter a username (see below for more information on usernames)
- Enter a password (see below for more information on passwords)
- Press the Submit button to save the user
Once a user has been created, removing the tick from the box will remove access to the portal once the user's session has expired, or they log out.
Usernames
Username accepts alpha numerical characters A-Z, a-z, 0-9. It also accepts three special characters, an underscore (_), a full stop (.) and the at symbol (@) and minimum of 2 other characters.
End Users have the following options for a username.
Username | Description |
---|---|
The account number | Using the account number as a username is automatically available to all portal users. The account number does not need to be entered into the username field for it to authenticate. |
custom username | As per the example below, you can give the user a customised username. When entering the username into the login page, the username or username + realm will authenticate. |
custom email address | To use the customer's own email address, enter it into the username field. Include the entire email address as shown below. End users only need to enter what is entered into the username field to authenticate, however if they also enter the realm, it will also grant access. |
When entering a username, do not enter the realm portion (as displayed on the right of the username input text box) otherwise your end users will be forced to use the entire username (including realm) in order for the login to work correctly.

Passwords
Passwords must be a minimum of 6 characters in length. Whilst theoretically unlimited length passwords are currently allowed, it wouldn't be practical so we recommend limiting passwords to a reasonable length.
A built in "strength meter" will dynamically alert you to the relative strength of your password.
A strong password will have a combination of lowercase characters, uppercase characters, numbers & special characters.
