Overview

This module provides the ability to adjust the set up or access fee for a single package or service subscription.

Set up and access fees can be defined on most of the billing objects, but the overrides in this module specifically cover overriding the default setup or access fee on a:

  • package plan
  • service plan.

Subscription-based overrides can be applied at the time of ordering, and, in the case of access fees, applies later under the relevant subscription object.

Users can also override both the BUY price and SELL prices. 

This module does not include the ability to:

  • alter an access fee charge applied via usage records
  • apply an override to a rate in a rate card
  • apply an override to a product rate in a product rate card.

This feature is only available to Cumulus users. The Sign Up Portal contains no way for end users to override their fees.

Case Scenario

There are several service types belonging to service suppliers where the BUY price (the price paid by the service provider) is variable. Each time the service is to be ordered, the service provider will receive a custom quote. Since the buy price is subject to change, the SELL price must also be variable. In these cases, defining a set up fee against a BUY or SELL plan is not ideal as the system will generate an incorrect charge.

Without this module, or prior to the module's existence, this scenario could be handled using the following methods:

  1. not defining a fee on the plan and rely on manually creating a cardline for the amount to be charged.
  2. defining an incorrect fee and rely on manually adjusting the resultant cardline after the fact. 
  3. creating a brand new plan specific to the scenario.

All of these options are problematic and attract risks that the customer will either be billed incorrectly, or not at all.  Further issues arise if the customer has an automated payment method that is enabled. If the first option is used, it is not possible to report on margin as manual cardlines cannot be linked back to the services they apply to.  If a new plan option is created each time a new service is requested, then the administrative overhead is significant and highly undesirable

The ability to override the set up and access fee for a given subscription overcomes all of these risks and issues.

  • a solid understanding of how the access fees are calculated in both an advanced and in arrears scenarios, particularly during mid-cycle plan changes.
